It all depends on how you balance it.

The rolling properties of a tire compound are primarily determined by three interdependent factors: traction (grip), rolling resistance, and mileage (durability). The dilemma: improving one of these factors can negatively affect at least one of the others. A tire with maximum grip wears faster and rolls slower. If you then make a tire roll faster and last longer, grip is reduced in turn.

With our Black Chili compound, a tread compound based on the latest polymer science and raw material research, we have delivered a durable solution to the cycling industry. Depending on the tire’s application, we tailor the compound formulation to the specific discipline—road cycling, mountain biking, time trial, or downhill.

How does it work? For Black Chili, we refine special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create high-performance tread compounds. We then add carbon black particles, whose shape and surface properties are optimized.

Cut and puncture resistant
With PolyX Breaker™, automotive expertise enters the bicycle tire sector. Polyester has been successfully used in car tires for years and has proven extremely effective. The extremely strong polyester fibers are tightly woven across the width of the tire. This creates a very high fabric density, making the interlayer resistant not only to foreign objects but especially to punctures. Rolling resistance is not affected by this interlayer.
