Silca Super Secret Chain Lube

Josh has been recommending Hot Melt Wax and helping professional cyclists and triathletes wax their chains for years. He wanted to bring his lubricant formula to our customers—but the challenge was how to melt, soak, and constantly agitate the chain across different crockpot designs and temperatures.

The project took a fascinating turn thanks to the world of IndyCar, when Josh was introduced to a group that had developed a technology allowing micro-scale wax powders to be suspended in a fast-drying solution. This solution forms a coating virtually indistinguishable from traditional hot melt waxing.

The combination of air-drying liquid wax and tungsten disulfide (WS₂) quickly proved to outperform all currently available hot melt waxes in friction testing—while being much faster and easier to apply.

Available formats:

• 4 oz. and 8 oz. bottles with a precision applicator tip for dripping onto your chain

• 16 oz. jar with 12 oz. of lubricant, leaving space to soak your chain

IMPORTANT: Your chain must be VERY clean and dry before application—see the video below.

How to apply:

• Follow the instructions in the video

• Allow to dry for at least 12 hours for optimal results—24 hours if applied in cool or humid conditions

• We recommend applying the lubricant after your ride, so it’s ready for the next one

Note: Over time, the WS₂ will begin to settle at the bottom of the bottle—shake well before each use!
