Maxime Brouillette: The evolution of a high-performance athlete

For Maxime Brouillette, training and fitness have always been at the heart of his daily life—a discipline inseparable from his career as a Montreal firefighter. However, it was the pandemic that served as the ultimate catalyst. With gyms closed, Maxime had to seek new horizons. A simple indoor trainer and a few bike rides later, a new passion was born, rapidly transforming this versatile sportsman into a high-level triathlete.

To fuel his 2026 ambitions, Maxime has acquired a machine built for his goals: a white Argon 18 E-119, equipped with a SRAM Force AXS groupset and HED wheels (including a rear disc wheel). To optimize this new ride, he relied on the expertise of Lori, a kinesiologist who has worked with him for several years to ensure a perfect aerodynamic fit. With this cutting-edge equipment and rigorous preparation, Maxime is now gearing up for his biggest season to date.

A Passion Born in Lockdown

When the pandemic forced gyms to close, Maxime had to reinvent his training routine. In 2019, he found his outlet on an indoor trainer. What began as a simple substitute for general fitness turned into true devotion, leading him to clock over 10,000 km on the bike annually.

Perhaps most impressive is his swimming journey: Maxime only picked up lap swimming in 2022, just six months before lining up for his first Ironman 70.3 in Tremblant. His progression has been nothing short of phenomenal: from 101st in his division in his first year, he climbed to 6th place the following year. On the same course, he shaved off a staggering 1:12:30, proving that determination and discipline pay off.

The Cycle Dupuis Experience: Performance and Camaraderie

The relationship between Maxime and the shop has solidified over every kilometer. Since discovering the Cycle Dupuis community in 2021, he has become a loyal member of the group rides organized by the shop and its partners. He was initially drawn by the unique atmosphere of the "speed groups" and the joy of riding alongside enthusiasts like his friend David Dupuis, co-owner of the business. For Maxime, regardless of age group or skill level, camaraderie and shared experience always take priority on the road.

The Daily Life of an Elite Athlete (and Firefighter!)

To maintain constant motivation, Maxime relies heavily on group training. His routine is rigorous: a standard week fluctuates between 12 and 15 hours of effort, peaking at 20 hours during specific blocks leading up to an event.

His schedule as a Montreal firefighter requires strategic planning. He wisely places his recovery days the morning after his 24-hour shifts, allowing his body to adapt to the physical load.

When it comes to nutrition, nothing is left to chance. Maxime places capital importance on his fueling strategy:

"It’s crucial to test your gels, carbohydrates, and fluids during training to teach your body how to manage energy. You want to avoid 'bonking' during a race, especially on a Full Ironman."

Results That Speak for Themselves

Maxime’s 2025 season was marked by top-tier performances, confirming his place among the amateur elite:

  • Ironman Ottawa: A masterful performance, finishing 5th Overall and 3rd in his division. He completed the race in an impressive 9:10, clocking the 3rd fastest bike split of the entire competition.

  • Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant: A memorable day crowned by a brilliant age group victory! A first-place finish shared with his friend William Fortin, also a shop ambassador, marking a highlight for Team Cycle Dupuis.

  • Ironman 70.3 Musselman: A solid 4th place in his division.

  • International Stage: Maxime also stood out competing at the World Championships in Spain and New Zealand.

These results, earned through ironclad discipline, are merely a prelude to his 2026 ambitions.

Objective 2026: The Dream of Hawaii

2026 is shaping up to be an electric year for our ambassador. He has chosen to skip Nice to focus his budget and energy on the "Holy Grail" of distances: Kona.

His calendar is already packed:

  • April/May: Boston and Ottawa Marathons.

  • June: 70.3 Massachusetts and Tremblant (for the 5th consecutive year!).

  • August: Ironman Ottawa, where he is aiming for a Sub-9 hour finish.

  • October: The legendary Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
